Several weeks where they won’t be earning income. So it makes sense to make that in these last 10 weeks you make as many sales and setup work for the new year. Did you realise that the humble Christmas card will do that for you? So how do you go about doing that?

Christmas Cards reach places flyers never will

Christmas Cards are the most readily received of all the marketing marketing. They are put on display for weeks and will be picked up and read by people who might not even be aware of you. It makes sense to design your cards to reach out to more than just the person you address on the mailing label. If you are planning to put in an offer, it makes sense to design it so anyone can use it because it’s silly to exclude potential sales.

Make it stand out

Don’t just buy off the shelf cards. Create cards with custom artwork, put in a personalised message, play around with the size and format of the card. At Copy Express we can give you all that for a cost comparable to buying a box of generic cards. Why send out a card that has some Christmas or Summer scene, when you can put a photo of the team wishing the customer season greetings. That’s going to have the impact of making your clients think of you in a more personal way. Last year we took a photo of our team dressed up in front of the Petone Wharf. Not only did we get hoots from passing motorists (yep – looks very strange in October) but we got tons of great comments from people who received the cards! Stay tuned to find our where we took this year’s photo!

Do it now

The last few weeks before Christmas are the busiest time for everyone. It doesn’t just get busy for those you send cards to, but it will be busy for you too. The last thing you want to be adding to the crush time is trying to send out cards. Instead send it sooner when you have time to plan it and they have time to appreciate it. It also leads in to the next point.

Test Test Test

The last thing you want is to have us print a batch of personalised cards and then find out that they have mistakes in the data used to generate the cards. Have us print samples of the card to make sure you are happy with the design, have a person go through the mailing list, testing to make sure that your design will survive being mailed. Check the format of your names, typing of addresses and completeness of your data.

Don’t oversell

A lot of people think of turning their Christmas card in to just another flyer with some special offer. There is nothing wrong in doing that, but don’t overdo it. Remember that people are expecting a somewhat personal card (they understand that they are mass-produced) but it is all about selling then they will bin it like the other flyers they receive. Make sure that the front of the card and the inside greeting is free from ads. If you need to include a sales message or special offer, do it quietly on the back or as an insert. The best offers are ones that don’t require the recipient to spend any money – if you can swing it – a true Christmas present.

This just a start.
